Unit: Transportation and Industry
Grade Level: 10th grade U.S. History
Objective: Students will analyze photographs of the construction process of the Nicholson Bridge and posters of the railroad industry. Based on their analysis, they will draw conclusions about the impact of the railroad industry on a national, state and local level.

Procedure:
Day 1: Using laptops, students will access the above sites. Working on their own, they will analyze all the photos and posters using the SEA method.
Day 2: Students will be divided into 3 groups – national, state or local impact. Using the NARA worksheets, students will collaborate and analyze the posters and photos and answer the NARA questions. The will also draw information from the SEA method they used the previous day.
Day 3: Continuing with their analysis, students will do additional research on the railroad industry focusing on the impact they have been assigned within their group. To get started, they will begin with the KWL chart and eventually complete it.
Day 4: Students will present their findings to the class.
Closure: After students present their findings, class discussion will take place regarding the development of the railroad industry from the turn of the 20th century to present day. Each impact will be addressed as students trace their findings and thoughts through the 20th century timeline.
